A special peace education model emerged in Warsaw

Everyone can do their own part for peace by learning to resolve conflictsin their own sphere of life. This, however, requires knowledge and skills: listening, mindful communication, confronting one’s own feelings andassumptions, and the ability to detect social structures and operationmodels that cause or maintain conflicts. Fortunately, these are all skillsthat can be practiced and maintained at all age levels.

We met with our partners Työväen akatemia, Sadankomitea, Setlementtiliitto and Fundacja Wspierania Dialogu “Rozmawiajmy” in Warsaw in January, where we were planning a European ”core” peace skills training model.

Our workshop was attended by interested organisations from all over Europe, especially from countries affected by conflicts. One of the key issues that emerged was the need to have a bigger issue that connects and explains things alongside human rights, democracy and dialogue: peace. It turned out to be a factor that united all the different areas and offered solutions. You can download workshop reports above.

After long days at work, our wonderful partners from Fundacja Wspierania Dialogu ”Rozmawiajmy” introduced us thoroughly to Polish food culture and the history of Warsaw – both the war-torn and the cradle of European philosophy and culture.

In Strengthening Peace Education for Preventing Conflicts, we explorethe challenges in training adults in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and dialogue. We research the current practices and needs in peaceeducation, and exchange experiences on effective training methods in EU-countries. SPEC is a small-scale partnership project working under the Erasmus+ programme. Our long-term aim is to develop a new, EU-widetraining programme in peacebuilding.
